Feline Medicine

Feline Veterinary Care is a focus in our Hospital. Dr. Martin Fink and Dr. Julie Pearson have a special interest in Feline Veterinary Medicine. Both doctors are members of the The American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP).  Hilton Animal Hospital is conveniently located in Newport News, VA and near Hampton, Virginia. We consider ourselves a cat friendly veterinary hospital. Cats are very different from dogs and require species specific solutions and a special touch. Hilton Animal Hospital offers a calm and quiet facility for your cat.

Tips for better Vet Visits

Vet visits are stressful to cats. We want to make the experience as calm and pleasant as possible. This starts with preparation at home for the impending visit to the vet. Please consult the PDF document below for suggestions to make a visit to the vet less stressful.

Regular Exams are Important

At Hilton Animal Hospital we want to educate our clients how important it is to have your cat examined every year to ensure a happy, healthy and long life. We also want to make the vet visit as pleasant and stress free as possible for our feline patients.

There are more cats in the U.S than dogs, making cats the most popular pet. However, studies show that only one third of cats receive regular veterinary care.

The disparity may be related to two reasons:

  • Cats are naturally adept at hiding signs of illness, and only show signs of disease very late in their onset; and sometimes when it is too late.
  • Cats don’t like going to the vet and fight their owners “tooth and nail”.

The truth is, cats need regular veterinary care, including annual exams and vaccinations, just like dogs do. And because they hide signs of illness, annual exams are especially important for early diagnosis of health problems.
